Welcome to the Website of the Sierra Watercolor Society! The Sierra Watercolor Society is comprised of approximately 170 members. SWS is a group of fun loving men and women who enjoy sharing their common love of water media, exhibiting, attending workshops and meetings and working together within the society and the Reno Community. We range in skill level from those who teach and routinely sell their artwork, to those who are beginners desiring to improve. Whatever each person’s level of expertise, ALL ARE WELCOME ! Our society strives to maintain a safe, non-judgmental, non-critical environment in which every member encourages one another in their individual artistic pursuits. My goal as president of SWS is to plan and arrange for activities which will ignite inspiration and fuel artistic energies in each member. In 2008-2009, we will be sponsoring exciting workshops in Reno by nationally and internationally renowned artist such as Jack Shields, Deb Groesser, Mark Mehaffey, Mike Baily, Lian Zhen, Ted Nuttal and others. We are excited to offer this caliber of teaching artists to our membership. In addition to teaching workshops, these artists and others, including Steven Saylors and Phyllis Schaffer, will demonstrate at our General Membership Meetings. Our community outreach “Art Angel Program” will continue to provide art to school children in the Truckee Meadows at NO CHARGE to the schools or students. Artist instructors and helpers are all volunteers and SWS provides all materials. We are extremely proud of our “Art Angel Program”, which is growing and very much in demand. We will be holding two “Paint Outs” this year as the weather warms up. We will meet at locations in our area to paint as a group. In 2008, we look forward to five Exhibits: The May Museum Exhibit, The Reno-Tahoe International Airport Exhibit, The Washoe County Library Exhibit, The Healing Arts Artown Exhibit and the judged Reno Balloon Race Exhibit. SWS meets the second Saturday of the months of January, March, May, August, October . We hold our Annual Christmas celebration in December. We are very fortunate to have access to a great meeting venue which can accommodate our meetings and demonstrations as well as our workshops. We meet at the First Congregational Church,627 Sunnyside Drive, Reno, NV 89503. We have ample parking, easy access, restrooms and kitchen facilities available to us. We are looking forward to a great 2008 and would love for you to join us. On our homepage, simply click on the “Membership” button and at the bottom of that page is a link to a membership application which you can print out and mail to our PO Box. As we continue to update this website, meeting dates and other events will be posted for 2008 and 2009. SWS has signed up with American Frame Corp. in a program
called the “Alliance Program.” All of our SWS members who order frames
and other supplies from American Frame will enable SWS to receive a quarterly refund check based on 5% of all orders our members place. This refund will be used by SWS as one of the many awards given out at the Judged Balloon Race Exhibit in Sept.
