The non-member may choose to apply this extra fee towards membership in the organization, if they wish. However, membership is not required to purchase a seat in a workshop.
3. Workshops must be paid in full 30 days prior to the first session.
4. Up until 30 days prior to a workshop, if a member or non-member must cancel their reservation, they will be refunded their paid deposit. After that time, monies paid will be refunded only if the organization has a waiting list for that particular workshop and is subsequently able to sell the seat. If no waiting list exists, the person wishing to cancel would then have the option of providing their own replacement. If this occurs, a refund will be issued.
M.E. "Mike" Bailey Workshop
March 8-12, 2010 "WATERCOLOR BEYOND THE OBVIOUS"
Cost: $300.00 members; $330.00 non-members
Deposit Required
We are proud to welcome back Santa Cruz artist Mike Bailey to conduct an intensive five day workshop for SWS! This is a FABULOUS opportunity to take a college level course that has been condensed into a workshop format. Mike has previously taught two other workshops for SWS, and has a large following of students. In Mike's own words: 'Beyond the Obvious' is an intense painting seminar that takes into account everything that affects the outcome of a painting, except the subject. Through demo, lecture and a goal of "exalting the mundane to extraordinary", the class is challenged to create effective space divisions, taught to design expressive shapes, pressed to understand value composition. Color strategies and textural elements are explored and tested.
Each painter develops a series of five paintings of similar theme through the week. Each subsequent painting is derived from the last. Emphasis is placed on the value of series work and what the painter may expect to extrapolate from the process in their own studio.
